Why charges quietly decide whether you make money

Charges scale with frequency

Each trade carries fixed charges regardless of size. Overtraders pay these dozens of times a day — the charges alone can turn a winning strategy into a losing month.

Breakeven is not zero

A trade must first move enough to cover its round-trip charges before it's profitable. On small F&O positions that breakeven move can be surprisingly large.

STT bites on the sell

STT is charged when you exit. Frequent square-offs and expiry-day exercise can add up fast — this calculator shows the exact amount before you trade.

Frequently asked questions

What charges apply to an F&O trade in India?

An F&O trade in India incurs brokerage, Securities Transaction Tax (STT) on the sell side, exchange transaction charges, SEBI turnover fees, GST (18% on brokerage + transaction + SEBI charges) and state stamp duty on the buy side. This calculator computes each of these plus your net P&L and breakeven.

How is STT calculated on options?

STT on options is charged on the sell side, on the option premium (not the full contract value). Futures STT is charged on the sell-side turnover. The exact percentage is set by the government and applied automatically in this calculator based on the instrument you select.

Why is my breakeven higher than I expected?

Every trade must first cover its round-trip charges before it turns a profit. The breakeven figure shows how far the price must move in your favour, per unit, just to cover brokerage, STT, GST and other charges — before you make a single rupee.
